RV CEFAS Endeavour Fisheries Research Vessel
The operators of RV CEFAS Endeavour identified the need for higher levels of operational reliability required when storing and freezing scientific samples collected during their research activities.
As their local contractor Pitkin & Ruddock were consulted on how to interface an additional condensing unit and associated controls with the existing system.
An initial consultation led to a project plan which detailed the design, manufacture, testing of the equipment prior to installation. The work on board was completed during the vessel's annual maintenance period in the winter of 2007 in its home port of Lowestoft.
Equipment details
- One four cylinder semi-hermetic compressor fitted with a marine sump to ensure lubrication in adverse weather conditions.
- A sea water cooled condenser.
- An oil seperator and associated oil control system.
- A suction accumulator to minimise liquid refrigerant entering the compressor.
- A purpose made electrical panel to allow automatic control of the system.
- Double-vibration isolation from the vessel structure.
- A full technical document package including identification of interface points and changeover procedures.
